Name: Mohammed Alhaj

Bio:

Born in Libya in 1982. He is a Palestinian refugee from the village of Kawkaba, Gaza District. He holds a BA in Art Education, granted by Al-Aqsa University in Gaza City in 2004. Alhaj is a founding member of the Palestinian Visual Artists Association in Central Gaza Strip, and one of its administrative members. He is also a member of the Paletta Contemporary Art Group. The artist Muhammed Al Haj is a young artist from Gaza. His painting styles differ from one school of art to the other, from abstract paintings to expressive ones, to paintings of a “pop art” nature. He has many participations in art exhibitions and festivals inside and outside of Palestine. Al Haj, with his experience as a young artist from Gaza, represents the perfect exemplar when talking about young contemporary visual art experiences in a city that suffers from almost complete disconnection from the rest of Palestine, the rest of the Arab world, and the global surroundings, where the challenges facing Palestinian artists in general take a more complex and difficult form in a city burdened by manifestations of war, siege and division that heavily affects young artists.
